713 A Reflection

Technology is an essential part of the classroom.  Teachers are using technology within all academics.  Teachers are using technology for collaborative learning through blogging, using google forms as exit slips, and using digital formats for responding to questions.  E-learning allows for differentiation of instruction, whether it be for gifted, second language learners, or students with disabilities.

As I reflect on Engaging E-Learning, there is a website I would like to reflect on from module 3, https://www.exemplars.com/index,.  This year I am teaching writing to a mixed classroom made up of English Language Learners,students with speech and academic disabilities, students in academic intervention, and gifted students.  Previously, I have primarily worked with special education. Teaching a whole class is challenging because instead of working with a small group, I am working with a whole class. Exemplars provided me examples that I am able to incorporate in instruction.  I am always looking for ways to be a better teacher with my students.

Being that we have only met as a class three times, there have been discussions taking place through responding to each others genius hour projects.  The discussion I really enjoyed was during module 4. I enjoyed the discussions taking place as we shared some positive accomplishments we have made in our genius hour projects.  I am interested in incorporating sewing in the classroom. Recently, some colleagues and I were discussing how home economics and shop classes are not offered anymore in school. So many students are missing out on life skills because these classes are becoming part of what once was.   

I value what I have learned and aim to continue to be a connected educator.   As I learn new technology, my students will grow. Currently, I am working on creating an exit slip for writing to help me gauge where my students are performing at so I can better help them through reteaching and re-engagement.  I tell my students to ask for help when they do not understand something and I also plan of following that same advice.

Following Twitter and keeping up with the technology that is being incorporated in education is how I plan to keep learning.  Utilizing Google Suite as well as the many other types of websites is another way I will continue to be the student.
