This is a reflection of an assignment from Module 4 of 21st Century Educational Leadership. The assignment was to design professional development for a school. I chose to design the professional development for a ½ day. The professional development is centered around differentiated instruction. More and more we are seeing special education within the general education setting. Teachers need to be able to modify the curriculum so these students can understand the concepts and accommodate them so that they are able to complete the assignments. With the use of technology, there are many apps that teachers can show students how to use that can help them to comprehend the new concepts they are learning. The main task of the professional development is to receive a list of apps grouped by subject. Teachers will have time to select the apps and use them to see if they would be beneficial for their students. They will then discuss how these apps worked in the classroom at the next meeting.
When working on this assignment, I kept asking myself how to keep the teachers engaged. The groupings were designed so that teachers from each grade level in the school can collaborate. To make it more engaging the activity was designed to be explorative. I would welcome professional development where I am able to explore and navigate an app prior to using it with my students.
Aspects of this assignment that were more challenging was to design the time frame so that it would not waste time and still provide enough time to complete each activity.
