Passion Projects / Genius Hour are being implemented with students in many schools. I have many passions. The one I chose to explore is to sew my own drapes (curtains). Usually I would find something else; however, because sewing drapes became my passion project, this dream became a reality.
The hardest part was finding the material. Material can be expensive. I also had a specific function I wanted the material to have. The material had to allow the most light in and at the same time minimum visibility. I finally found the material and enlisted my sewing mentor to help me with the measuring and cutting. She also helped when I had problems with putting the bobbin back in the sewing machine.
Cutting the material was stressing because I bought the exact amount I would need and if I made any mistakes, I would not be able to fix it. Pinning the material was also difficult because I had to pin it so that it fed into the machine and at the same time I was able to remove the pins. I poked all of my fingers at least once.
I am so very happy with the end result. My drapes look awesome and the fabric functions as I want it to.
It is my plan to incorporate Genius Hour in the classroom once a week starting second semester.
Love the drapes, Nicole! They are super cute! Grat job persevering (and I definitely would have been WAY too paranoid if I had just enough of the material.
