The narrative below is a reflection of my experience creating a Word Cloud, a digital tool, as an assignment during first course I am participating in to obtain an endorsement in Educational Technology.
I chose Word Clouds as an artifact to showplace an entertaining submission I created for Foundations of Technology. I really enjoyed making this and have since used it to create a gift. Word clouds can be seen on T-shirts and posters and I always thought how amusing they appear. I used WordArt.com and I was amazed by all its possibilities. Word Clouds are a useful tool in the classroom. Within the program, there are options for changing font, color, shapes, and layout. I liked being able to choose different fonts and colors, as well as using different shapes. Although, as a first-time user, a challenge I had was not being aware of what colors would stand out to be visually pleasing. Another challenge was not being aware that more is not always better, meaning that listing many words can take away from the product. I am still learning how to have some words stand out with others being in the background.

In the classroom, word Clouds can be used to introduce a concept in the form of a concept map or as a closure where students can list what they learned from the lesson. Another use is to improve vocabulary; students can list synonyms and antonyms of vocabulary words in content area subjects. Students can list figurative language to describe a character, setting, place, word or phrase. Another use could be as a cover for their writing notebook (paper or digital).
Overall, I highly recommend using this program because it engages users and creates a product to show what was learned.
