In Module four, the assignment involved professional and technical support. As teachers we are provided professional development on curriculum, standards based grading, and on how to use the technology we are using in the classroom. Unfortunately, the parents are not aware of how to use the same technology. I feel it is very important for parents to be aware of what their children are learning. This involves websites where curriculum is found; as well as learning sites to increase foundation skills. This includes academic tools to aid with writing and reading.
Technology is not perfect and it has glitches. Providing support for parents to troubleshoot typical problems will help children to complete required tasks.
I truly enjoyed putting this together. I plan on using this with parents in the future in order to bridge the gap between home and school. The only downfall is that presenting this to parents is not as easy as it is believed. Getting parents in the school for classes is difficult due to work schedules; and there are childcare to take into consideration.
