Artifact 4 Relection

Below is a description of my experience using the digital tool Google Slides. Google Slides is part of the Google Suite for education core services and is located in google drive. It is comparable to Power Point; however, it has collaborative features that benefit student use in the classroom.

Fables are a fantastic way to review character traits, feelings, and compare characters.  Google slides is a great collaborative tool that students can use. It enables students to work collaboratively on the same project in and outside of the classroom.
My experience in creating this lesson was enjoyable and nerve wracking.  The general format of slides was easy to acclimate to because of my experience with creating slides using PowerPoint; however, the tools and features were quite different.  The location of the tools is in different locations and titled differently.  I had to search between the different drop-down menus to accomplish my goal which made it challenging.  For example, in PowerPoint, the option to customize the slides is under “design” and in Google Slides it is located under file and titled “page setup.” Time was spent familiarizing myself with the features in Google Slides.   This was challenging because I kept wanting to select options like I would using PowerPoint.
While using google slides, I was disappointed with the ability to change the background of the slides and I did not like being limited to just changing the slide background colors.
I really enjoyed being able to link directly to a word or picture using the link icon.  Linking a video was easy and having it play within the text box parameters. However, when clicking on the link to a graphic organizer, I was unable to have it pull up within the parameters of the text box.
Overall, I like that google slides enables students to work collaboratively from their own chrome books in and outside of the class setting.  I predict that I will be using this tool more and more.
